We tend to think of drawing as something really difficult that only people with great talent and dedication can accomplish. To be honest, this is only partly true. We do need talent, but what exactly is it and how will you know you have “talent” to draw in the first place?
We can’t tell if you have great drawing skills just form your first drawing. If you look at the first attempts made by successful artists you can see that most of them started where we are now.
I doesn’t matter if you never tried drawing before. What matters is that you now have the desire to draw. Just like the picture shown above, something like a squiggle can be made to look beautiful. All you have to do is imagine it to be something more than a squiggle and give it form.
Children have a great imagination, that’s why they can sometimes draw the most amazing pictures. They draw what they imagine in their mind and are not afraid of showing what they drew. We adults, on the other hand, tend to worry about what others might think after seeing our drawing. It is this fear that pulls us down. So a friendly tip for beginners is to not worry about what others think. Having confidence in what you do can make a big difference.
Practice makes perfect
Like all activities, we need to spend time and practice to master drawing. Anyone can draw a picture but, not everyone can draw good pictures unless they practice.
Keep drawing everyday for a few minutes and you will see an improvement in a few weeks. Drawing is about expressing what we are imagining on paper.
Drawing is about expressing yourself.
Drawing what you feel is a great way to express yourself. A lot of times we often stumble and wonder what to even try drawing. A great topic you can choose for that is drawing what you are feeling. Let yourself imagine what you are feeling and give it shape.Giving form to feelings can be challenging at first but with time it is something that can be mastered.
Copy drawings to improve yours.
We often spent a lot of time copying other’s drawings to perfect our drawing skills. I spent a lot of time copying anime characters and from past drawings, I’ve come a long way. Copying others drawings helps you improve your hand-eye coordination and improve your sense of drawing.
Why do We
Drawing helps us have fun. To us , its a medium of expressing how we feel. Drawing helps us see things differently and sparks our imagination. It motivates us and helps pass the time. We have fun when we draw. Its the only reason we ever needed. Even when we were doodling in our notebooks during boring lectures or when we were drawing from inspiration, having fun is why we draw.
Draw and have Fun
Keep practicing drawing and you will get better. We all started out drawing squiggles and doodles on textbooks. The important thing is that we had fun. So have fun when you draw and forget about the small details. As time moves forward we tend to get better and better.
